Refresher in Text-Based Literature Search Fall 2021

Do you want to save a lot of time during your research or master project? The Chemistry | Biology | Pharmacy Information Center offers a valuable refresher course on text-based literature search.

This event will be held in English. Please don't confuse this refresher course with the one on Structure-Based Literature Search with Reaxys and SciFinder. They are independent of each other and designed with minimal overlap in content.

Equipment: A Laptop with VPN connection to ETH network; you can attend the course without the device, but for your memory it might be beneficial to work along with the examples presented.

Course contents:

  • Formulate a search question and translate it so that a database can understand it
  • Different types of sources and what part of your written thesis they are useful for
  • The basics of Scopus
  • Search strategies: exploratory, bottom-up, top-down, pearl growing
  • Search tactics: Boolean operators, phrases, wildcards, truncation, etc.
  • How to locate the paper from the citation

If you attended "A Refresher in Finding and Managing Literature for your Research Project" in earlier semesters, you are welcome to join again, but please be aware that 90% of the content will be identical.
